On May 17th, Glenside Fire Company proudly marked a major milestone—125 years of continuous volunteer service to the community. Founded in 1900 by a group of concerned citizens who saw the need for organized fire protection in the growing Glenside area, the company has remained steadfast in its mission ever since.
Originally chartered to serve the communities of Edgehill, Weldon, and Glenside, the department has grown with the region, responding to thousands of emergencies while maintaining a tradition of excellence, professionalism, and neighborly care.
“This anniversary is not just about our fire company,” said Chief. “It’s about the people—our founders who had the vision, our past and present volunteers who’ve served with dedication, and the residents whose trust and support make everything we do possible.”
Over the last 125 years, Glenside Fire Company has endured world wars, economic challenges, and even a global pandemic. Through it all, the department has remained 100% volunteer—an achievement that speaks to the strength and resilience of the community.
Today’s celebration honors not only the history of the company, but also its future. Training, education, and strong community ties continue to guide the department forward as it adapts to new challenges in fire suppression, rescue, and public safety.
To the residents of Glenside and surrounding neighborhoods: thank you. Your ongoing support fuels our mission and keeps our community safe.
Fire Prevention Tip: As we celebrate this historic milestone, we remind residents to test smoke alarms monthly and replace batteries at least once a year. Working smoke alarms save lives.
